The Barn

All Projects

■ Introduction

A staircase designed to complement the industrial character of this modern barn, featuring European Oak treads paired with a linear steel and glass balustrade that echoes the zig-zag stringer. The elegant design aligns perfectly with the half-landing glass extrusion, offering uninterrupted views of Belvoir Castle and creating a striking focal point within the interior.

■ The Challenge

The homeowners were specific about style, wanting only timber visible on the underside of the treads, hidden steel connections, and no tread tabs. The banister design added complexity and required additional precision from the installer.

■ The Solution

Extra-thick, chunky treads were used. Endcaps were machined from the same timber blocks to ensure the grain flows seamlessly, and a shadow gap detail adds refinement, creating a landing that feels both light and architecturally sculpted.
